LETS TALK COLORBOND

The Pros

Strong. Modern. Built to Last – Colorbond Fencing

Looking for a fence that’s durable, low-maintenance and looks great for years to come?
Colorbond fencing is one of the most popular choices for Australian homes and for good reason.

  • Built for Australian conditions – Won’t rot, warp or be eaten by termites.
  • Low maintenance – No painting or ongoing upkeep required.
  • Modern, clean look – Available in a range of colours to suit any home.
  • Strong and secure – Perfect for privacy and safety.

At MJ Fencing, we install professionally built Colorbond fences designed to stand strong and look great for years to come.

The Cons

Key things to consider with Colorbond fencing:

• Ground Clearance – Colorbond fences require around 50mm clearance from the ground. This helps prevent moisture damage and allows for drainage, especially in areas where soil or garden beds sit against the fence. Also on slopes it can't be manipulated easy therefore has to step.

• Noise / Echo – Because Colorbond is a solid steel panel it can reflect sound more than timber fencing. In tight areas or narrow side passages this can sometimes create an echo effect so if you drop a fart the neighbours will hear it.

• Positioning Matters – Installing Colorbond in high-traffic areas, tight spaces or where objects regularly hit the fence can lead to dents or damage. Unlike timber, individual panels can show impact marks more easily.

• Wind Exposure – In very open or exposed areas, proper post depth and installation are crucial to ensure the fence can handle strong winds.

At MJ Fencing, we always inspect the site first and will let you know honestly if Colorbond is the right choice for your property or if another fencing style would perform better.

We build Colorbond the correct way

When it comes to Colorbond fencing, we’re not the cheapest and that’s because we build it properly, to last.

At MJ Fencing, we go beyond the standard installation by reinforcing our fences with 65x65mm galvanized steel posts at the ends and strategically through the fence line to add extra strength and stability.

We also upgrade all posts and set them using a proper cement or concrete mix, allowing them to cure correctly for long-term durability.

Unlike many installers we do not use quick-set concrete, as this voids the manufacturer’s warranty.

When you choose MJ Fencing, you’re choosing quality workmanship, stronger materials and a fence built to stand the test of time.

WHICH COLOUR SUITS?

Choosing the right colour for your Colorbond fence can make a big difference to the overall look of your property. The right choice can complement your home, blend with the landscape, and even make your yard feel bigger.

 1. Match Your Home’s Exterior
A good starting point is to look at the colours already on your home — roof, brickwork, render or gutters. Choosing a Colorbond colour that complements these elements helps the fence blend naturally with the property rather than stand out for the wrong reasons.

 2. Consider the Surroundings
Think about your garden, trees, lawn and neighbouring homes. Natural tones like greys, greens and earthy colours often blend nicely into the landscape and give a more subtle, modern look.

3. Think About Light vs Dark
Lighter colours can make smaller yards feel more open and spacious, while darker colours can give a bold, modern appearance and make plants and greenery stand out.

 4. Popular Choices
Some of the most popular Colorbond fence colours homeowners choose are:
• Monument – modern dark charcoal look
• Woodland Grey – strong neutral tone
• Pale Eucalypt – soft green that blends with gardens
• Surfmist – light and clean for coastal or modern homes

 5. Think Long Term
Your fence will be there for many years, so it’s worth choosing a colour you’ll still like down the track. Neutral colours tend to age well and suit most homes if you ever sell.

At MJ Fencing Kilsyth, we’re always happy to help customers choose a colour that suits their home and street. Sometimes simply holding colour samples next to your house can make the decision much easier.
